Sarah Jean Rocca
As a self portrait artist, I explore the beauty I see in the darkness in life. Where others might feel tension or discomfort, I feel a sense of peace and ease when delving into subjects like fear, anxiety and death. My work portrays single subjects, often in uncomfortable positions, signifying the challenges we face mentally and physically during our daily lives.
This fascination with darkness means I often look at the dead trees before the vibrant ones. A rusted old car may hold more meaning to me than a shiny new one as I think about the path it has taken to be in that state.
My upbeat personality and bubbly laughter often takes others by surprise as being so far from my dark work which shows you can appreciate the darker side of life and not be a dark person yourself.
